We agreed long ago that our retirement years would include service to others.  In 2012 Barbara and I decided to devote ourselves to making a difference…somewhere, somehow…and quickly settled on the Peace Corps.  So we started with an inquiry leading to Katie Sylvester, the smart, affable and professional Peace Corps recruiter for the Midwest based right here in Montgomery Ohio.  Katie served in Zambia as a PCV.  See Katie discuss her PC experience- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtSvJptzx-8   Now, I turned 70 in December 2013 and Barbara will be 69 in July 2014, just three days before we depart for our volunteer post in Namibia!  So in 2012, anticipating our recent “semi-retirement” we planned our “commencement” and began the detailed, time consuming application process (which is ongoing today in the sense that we still have final physical exams, inoculations and “final medical approval” pending).  The process consisted of numerous detailed essays, fingerprinting, medical documentation and an interview with Katie.  And we are very grateful to friends who served as references for us.  In case you are interested, here are PC Fast Facts and more – http://www.peacecorps.gov/about/fastfacts/
