Y2.011k begins

Isn’t it great to have the new year start on a Saturday!  I did not know what I would do with all that left-over whipped cream until I decided to put it on top of my coffee this morning.  Raining and gray.  Wind out of the southwest is blowing fog across the lake as the 55F meets the thin ice.  Every bit of snow has melted.  Even in the rain there are dogs out walking their people and water fowl in confusion, “Should we cancel our flights for today?  This is our kind of climate.”  Maybe they should touch down in Phoenix for the Fiesta Bowl where I will be cheering the Huskies tonight (from a bar…afar).  Those Sooners better not show up too early and here’s why: Sooners is the name given to settlers in the Midwest  who entered the Unassigned Lands in what is now  Oklahoma before President Cleveland officially proclaimed them open to settlement.  The name derived from the “sooner clause” of the Indian Appropriations Act of 1889, which stated that anyone who entered and occupied the land or football stadium prior to the opening time would be denied the right to claim land.  On the other hand, Huskies (both UConn and Yukon types) employ exceptional teamwork to quickly mush move hundreds of yards against all odds and under the most treacherous conditions.

GO HUSKIES!

AND A FINE EFFORT IT WAS!
